Hair Tips: DIY Hibiscus Hair Rinse

When you hear Hibiscus Leaf what comes to your mind? A chilled glass of Zobo right, you are not the only one.

We all love chilled Zobo especially when it comes with hot and spicy suya.

But do you know that there’s more to hibiscus leaf than Zobo? This wonder flower works great for your skin and hair especially.

Hibiscus tea rinse does the following for your hair:

  1. Prevents hair loss
  2. Prevents premature greying
  3. Lessens frizz
  4. Promotes hair growth
  5. Gives hair a boost of shine and bounce
  6. Helps balance the pH of the scalp
  7. Reduces redness, scalping and itching of the scalp
  8. Works like an astringent to reduce the oiliness of hair
  9. Discourages split ends


To prepare your Hibiscus Hair rinse all you need is the Hibiscus Leaves, Water and any oil of your choice.


Step 1 – Place the leaves in a jar/bowl

Step 2- Bring water to boil and pour over the leaves

Step 3 – Leave to steep until it cools down

Step 4- Strain well to remove bits and pieces of leaves (You can add one or two drops of your favourite carrier oil – coconut, almond or olive oil)

Step 5- Wash and condition your hair as usual

Step 6- Pour the infusion in your hair and leave for about 10-15 minutes

Step 7- Rinse off with warm water

Next time you buy Hibiscus leaves to make your beloved Zobo, kindly spare some for your hair!

P.S: This rinse can be used on any type and kind of hair – Relaxed or Unrelaxed!
